Pakistan Navy Promotes Four Commodores to Rear Admiral

ISLAMABAD, Tuesday, July 28, 2026: The Pakistan Navy has promoted four commodores to the rank of rear admiral, the Directorate General Public Relations of the Navy said on Tuesday.

The officers promoted are Rear Admiral Tasawar Iqbal, Rear Admiral Muhammad Umair, Rear Admiral Shahid Wasif and Rear Admiral Rao Ahmed Imran Anwar.

Rear Admiral Tasawar Iqbal joined the Pakistan Navy’s Operations Branch in 1995.

He is a graduate of the Pakistan Navy War College in Lahore and the National Defence University in Islamabad. He also completed the Inter-Services Staff Course in France.

During his career, he has served in several command and staff appointments, including commanding officer of PNS Alamgir, commander of the 25th Destroyer Squadron, commandant of the Pakistan Naval Academy and senior Pakistan Navy officer in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

He is currently serving as Commander West and has been awarded the Sitara-i-Imtiaz (Military).

Rear Admiral Muhammad Umair

Rear Admiral Muhammad Umair was commissioned in the Operations Branch in 1996.

He graduated from the Pakistan Navy War College and the National Defence University. He also completed a Communication Command Course in China and a Naval Staff College Course in the United States.

His previous appointments include commanding officer of PNS Quwwat, PNS Tariq and PNS Tabuk, as well as commander of the 14th Destroyer Squadron.

He has also served as deputy director of Naval Operational Plans (Strategy) at Naval Headquarters in Islamabad.

Rear Admiral Umair is currently commandant of the Pakistan Naval Academy in Karachi and is a recipient of the Sitara-i-Imtiaz (Military).

Rear Admiral Shahid Wasif

Rear Admiral Shahid Wasif joined the Operations Branch in 1996.

He is a graduate of the Pakistan Navy War College and the National Defence University. He completed the Advanced Command and Staff Course in the United Kingdom and holds a master’s degree in defence studies from King’s College London.

He has also completed the Defence and Strategic Studies Course in Australia and holds a master’s degree in international relations from Deakin University.

His appointments have included commanding officer of PNS Saif, deputy director of Naval Operational Plans (Strategy), assistant naval secretary for operations, director of human resources and principal secretary to the Chief of the Naval Staff.

He is currently serving as commander of the 25th Destroyer Squadron in Karachi and has been awarded the Sitara-i-Imtiaz (Military).

Rear Admiral Rao Ahmed Imran Anwar

Rear Admiral Rao Ahmed Imran Anwar was commissioned in the Operations Branch in 1996.

He is a graduate of the Pakistan Navy War College and the National Defence University and completed the Advanced Command and Staff Course in the United Kingdom. He also holds a master’s degree in defence studies from King’s College London.

His command appointments include PNS Zarrar, PNS Shamsheer and PNS Zulfiqar, as well as commander of the 10th Patrol Craft Squadron.

He has also served as assistant chief of naval staff for operations at Naval Headquarters, naval adviser at the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi and deputy commandant of the Pakistan Navy War College in Lahore.

He is currently serving as naval secretary at Naval Headquarters in Islamabad.

Rear Admiral Anwar has been awarded the Sitara-i-Imtiaz (Military) and Tamgha-e-Basalat.
