ISLAMABAD, May 21, 2026 (Web Desk): Pakistan may leave wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan out of the upcoming three-match ODI series against Australia, according to reports.
The development could mark a major selection call for Pakistan, with the team management reportedly considering other wicketkeeping options before Australia’s arrival in Islamabad on May 23.
Reports said Pakistan’s selection committee discussed Rizwan’s place in the squad after consultations involving head coach Mike Hesson and captain Shaheen Shah Afridi. Hesson is reportedly not in favour of including Rizwan in the ODI squad after the T20 series.
Rizwan has played 103 ODIs for Pakistan, scoring 2,979 runs at an average of 40.08. His record includes four centuries and 19 half-centuries.
As wicketkeeper, Rizwan has taken 113 catches and completed seven stumpings in ODI cricket.
In Pakistan’s three-match ODI series against Bangladesh in March 2026, Rizwan scored 58 runs.
For the Australia series, Ghazi Ghouri, who made his debut as a batter in the third ODI against Bangladesh, could be included alongside either Usman Khan or Mirza Saad Baig as the second wicketkeeping option.
Australia are scheduled to arrive in Islamabad on May 23 for the ODI series.
