RAWALPINDI, September 16: Pakistan and Indonesia have agreed to deepen naval cooperation through joint exercises, professional training and reciprocal visits as the two countries seek closer defence ties and enhanced coordination on regional maritime security.
The understanding was reached during a meeting between Indonesian Navy Chief Admiral Dr Muhammad Ali and Pakistan’s Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf at Naval Headquarters in Islamabad, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
During the talks, the two naval chiefs discussed matters of mutual interest, regional maritime security and bilateral naval cooperation.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening professional engagement between the Pakistan Navy and Indonesian Navy, particularly through training programmes, exchange visits and joint naval exercises.
Admiral Dr Muhammad Ali also appreciated the Pakistan Navy’s efforts to promote maritime security and stability in the region.
Earlier, upon his arrival at Naval Headquarters, the Indonesian naval chief was presented with a guard of honour. He also laid a floral wreath at the Shuhada Monument to pay tribute to Pakistan’s fallen personnel.
As part of his official visit, Admiral Muhammad Ali travelled to Karachi, where he interacted with Pakistan Navy field commanders and met the Managing Director of Karachi Shipyard & Engineering Works.
The Indonesian naval chief also visited a Pakistan Navy fleet unit and the Joint Maritime Information Coordination Centre (JMICC), which supports coordination and information sharing related to maritime security.
The visit reflects continued defence engagement between Islamabad and Jakarta, with both sides seeking to expand naval cooperation and professional exchanges in areas of shared maritime interest.
