BERLIN, October 28, 2026: The Embassy of Pakistan in Berlin organised a seminar to observe Jammu and Kashmir Black Day, reaffirming Pakistan’s political, diplomatic and moral support for the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination.
The event commemorated October 27, 1947, when Indian forces landed in Srinagar, a date observed by Pakistan and Kashmiris as Black Day.
The seminar brought together members of the Pakistani and Kashmiri communities, representatives of German civil society, academics, journalists and students.
Proceedings began with the recitation of the Holy Quran, followed by the national anthems of Pakistan, Germany and Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Special messages from Pakistan’s President, Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister were also read out.
Addressing the gathering, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Germany, Salman Sharif, highlighted the historical background of the Kashmir dispute and expressed concern over alleged human rights violations in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir.

He stressed that lasting peace and stability in South Asia required a just resolution of the dispute in accordance with relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
Volker Tschapke, Honorary President of the Prussian Society, and Hans Dube also attended the seminar and discussed the significance of the Kashmir issue.
Kashmiri leaders and activists Altaf Hussain Wani, Shamim Shawl and Ali Raza Syed addressed participants through video messages, raising concerns about arbitrary detentions, demographic changes and restrictions on fundamental freedoms in the disputed territory.
Participants expressed solidarity with the Kashmiri people and pledged to raise awareness of the dispute within their communities across Germany.
A documentary highlighting the situation in Kashmir was screened during the seminar. Participants also visited a photographic exhibition at the embassy depicting alleged human rights violations and the resilience of the Kashmiri people.
The event concluded with a collective prayer for peace, progress and freedom for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
