KARACHI: Pakistan Customs Enforcement Karachi has seized 212 kilograms of hashish during an operation conducted on the Super Highway following a tip-off, officials said.
According to Pakistan Customs, a team deployed at the Super Highway checkpoint acted on intelligence regarding the suspected transportation of narcotics. During the operation, officials identified and pursued a suspected Toyota Premio.
The vehicle was eventually stopped near the Aga Khan Hospital signal after a chase. Customs officials said the suspected vehicle collided with a Customs Vigo during the pursuit.
Officials further alleged that suspected pilot vehicles accompanying the vehicle opened aerial fire at the Customs team during the chase. Despite the reported risks, the officials continued the pursuit and intercepted the suspected vehicle.
A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 212 packets of hashish, each weighing approximately one kilogram, bringing the total seized quantity to 212 kilograms.
The suspected vehicle and recovered narcotics were taken into Customs custody, officials said.
Pakistan Customs said legal proceedings against the individuals allegedly involved in the transportation and smuggling of the hashish are underway. An FIR is also being registered under the relevant legal provisions.
Customs Enforcement Karachi said it would continue operations against smuggling and the illegal transportation of narcotics.
