ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Omar Ayub has dared to arrange a meeting with party founder Imran Khan if he really has the power to do so. The Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, while talking to the media at the Islamabad Judicial Complex, said that the government was not allowing the PTI leaders to meet Imran Khan. “We were told that arranging a meeting with Imran Khan is not part of the prison handbook,” Omar Ayub said. He said that the PTI only wanted the formation of a judicial commission to probe the events of May 9 and November 26 and the immediate release of all political workers. Earlier, National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq expressed regret over the allegations made by PTI leaders and defended his role in facilitating talks between the government and the opposition. Addressing criticism regarding his alleged inaction in arranging a meeting with the PTI founder, the spokesperson clarified that it was not his mandate or responsibility to facilitate such meetings. “It is unfortunate that baseless criticism is leveled against my role. My duty is to act as a mediator between the government and the opposition, not to arrange meetings with the founder,” said Ayaz Sadiq. He went on to address critics, saying, “If my critics believe that I should withdraw from the negotiation process, I’m open to considering their proposal.”
