ISLAMABAD, Sunday, September 20, 2026: The National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) marked the 10th anniversary of the International Day of University Sport (IDUS) with a Green Walk at its Islamabad campus on Sunday, promoting physical fitness, environmental responsibility and a drug-free lifestyle.

The university community participated in the activity led by Rector NUST Dr Muhammad Zahid Latif, bringing together students, faculty and staff around the themes of health, wellness and sustainability.

The event coincided with the International University Sports Federation’s (FISU) global “10 Years – 10 Kilometers” initiative, launched to commemorate a decade of IDUS. Universities around the world have been encouraged to organise a 10-kilometre sporting or physical activity as part of the anniversary celebrations.

The Green Walk combined physical activity with an environmental message, highlighting the role universities can play in encouraging healthier lifestyles while fostering awareness about sustainability.

Addressing participants at the conclusion of the walk, Dr Zahid Latif stressed the importance of regular exercise and healthy habits in building a more energetic and balanced university community.

He encouraged students, faculty and staff to make physical activity, wellness and healthier choices a regular part of everyday life rather than limiting them to special events.

The event also carried an anti-drug awareness message, with participants encouraged to support healthy and drug-free lifestyles.

By linking physical fitness with environmental responsibility and drug-abuse awareness, the initiative sought to promote a broader culture of wellbeing across the NUST community.
