KARACHI: The National Highways & Motorway Police (NHMP), South Zone Karachi, has established its first Driving Licensing Authority (DLA) Facilitation Centre in Sindh at the DIG Office, South Zone, located on M-9.
The modern facility was formally inaugurated by Additional Inspector General South Region Javed Akbar Riaz, Sitara-e-Imtiaz, in the presence of senior NHMP officers and distinguished guests, including legendary squash player Jahangir Khan and renowned artist Jimmy Engineer.
Speaking at the inauguration, Additional IG Javed Akbar Riaz said the new DLA Facilitation Centre was an important step towards providing citizens with modern, transparent and merit-based driving licensing services.
Initially, the centre will facilitate driving licences for motorcycles, cars, jeeps and light transport vehicles (LTVs).
Riaz said a standardized licensing system would help promote safe driving, compliance with traffic laws and a responsible traffic culture. He added that the technology-based system would improve transparency, efficiency and convenience throughout the licensing process.
Jahangir Khan welcomed the initiative, describing the modern licensing centre as a valuable facility for residents of Karachi and Sindh.
During the ceremony, Additional IG Javed Akbar Riaz also inaugurated a newly established Operational Monitoring Centre at the NHMP Zonal Office, South Zone Karachi.
Officials briefed him on the centre’s modern monitoring system and operational functions.
According to NHMP, the new Operational Monitoring Centre is expected to strengthen operational monitoring, coordination and timely response, supporting more effective traffic management and public safety in the region.
