KATHMANDU: Nepal police have recovered gold valued at around 500 million Nepali rupees, along with 15 million rupees in cash and important documents, from bank lockers buried beneath flood debris.
According to foreign media reports, police located the lockers after several hours of an operation at the Trishuli Dhunge branch of Krishi Vikas Bank, which was buried under debris following devastating flooding in the area. The recovered valuables and documents were moved to a secure location.
Lockers Pulled From Flood Debris
A video released by police shows personnel clearing debris to reach the bank’s basement. Heavy machinery was used to remove the buried lockers from the damaged building.
The recovery operation comes as severe flooding in Nepal has buried numerous buildings and vehicles under several feet of mud and debris. Banks in several affected areas have also sustained significant damage.
The recovered gold, cash and documents are now in a secure location, according to police.
