LAHORE – October 14, 2026 – National Grid Company of Pakistan Limited has formally launched a new brand identity, “National Grid Pakistan”, as the country’s national electricity transmission utility moves ahead with plans to expand and modernise the power transmission network.

The company said the new identity reflects its goal of becoming a more efficient, reliable and digitally enabled transmission service provider while supporting Pakistan’s energy transition.

National Grid Pakistan is the legal successor to the National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC), whose history dates back to 1998 following the unbundling of WAPDA.

The company is responsible for planning, building, operating and maintaining Pakistan’s national electricity transmission grid, including Extra High Voltage infrastructure of 220kV, 500kV and above.

According to the company, the national grid has successfully transmitted a peak demand of 25,552 MW.

Under its FY2027–29 Business Plan, National Grid Pakistan aims to increase transformation capacity from 70,910 MVA to 96,905 MVA.

The expansion programme includes new 765kV, 500kV and 220kV infrastructure, HVDC integration, additional grid stations and thousands of kilometres of new transmission lines.

The company said the planned investment is intended to meet growing electricity demand and facilitate the connection of additional generation capacity to the national grid.

Digitalisation and Grid Modernisation

National Grid Pakistan said modernising the transmission network and removing system constraints will remain central to its operational strategy.

Planned measures include improvements in governance, asset management and project delivery, along with greater use of digital systems.

The company intends to expand enterprise systems, condition-based monitoring, drone inspections, SCADA and cybersecurity capabilities to improve planning, investment decisions and network reliability.

Focus on Localisation and Supply-Chain Resilience

Indigenisation has also been identified as a strategic priority.

The company said it plans to increase participation by local industry, strengthen domestic technical capacity and gradually reduce dependence on imported equipment and services.

The move is aimed at improving supply-chain resilience and cost efficiency while supporting local technical expertise.

National Grid Pakistan said financial sustainability, regulatory compliance, safety and enterprise risk management would remain core elements of its strategy.

The company added that its new identity would support its wider objective of building a more reliable, efficient and resilient national transmission network capable of meeting Pakistan’s future energy and economic needs.
