Pakistan all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz has been suspended after admitting to a violation of the ICC Anti-Doping Code, the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced. The governing body also ruled that all of Nawaz’s cricketing results recorded between February 7 and May 1, 2026, have been disqualified.
According to the ICC, the 32-year-old returned an adverse analytical finding following a doping test conducted after Pakistan’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup match against the Netherlands in Colombo, Sri Lanka, on February 7, 2026. The sample tested positive for Carboxy-THC, a prohibited substance under the anti-doping regulations.
Player Accepted the Violation
The ICC said Nawaz admitted to the anti-doping rule violation and maintained that the prohibited substance was not used to enhance his on-field performance. His explanation was taken into account during the disciplinary process.
As a result, the ICC imposed a three-month period of ineligibility, effective from May 1, 2026, the date on which Nawaz voluntarily accepted a provisional suspension.
Suspension May Be Reduced
The ICC stated that Nawaz’s period of ineligibility could be reduced to one month if he successfully completes an approved substance abuse treatment program.
Since the Pakistan international has already served more than two months under provisional suspension, completing the required treatment program would allow him to return to competitive cricket without serving additional time.
Match Results Disqualified
In addition to the suspension, the ICC confirmed that all of Mohammad Nawaz’s individual cricket results achieved between February 7 and May 1, 2026, have been officially disqualified in accordance with the ICC Anti-Doping Code.
