Mardan Police has appointed Female Sub-Inspector Sabina Naz as Additional Station House Officer at City Police Station, marking the first such appointment in the district’s police history.
The appointment is being viewed as an important step for women’s participation in policing and is expected to help women, children and victims of domestic violence or other sensitive cases access police services more comfortably.
Sub-Inspector Sabina Naz has formally assumed charge of her duties at City Police Station. Local residents said the presence of a female officer could encourage more women to report complaints and seek legal assistance in cases where they may otherwise feel hesitant.
Citizens have expressed hope that the appointment will strengthen trust between the police and the public, particularly in matters involving vulnerable complainants and family-related disputes.
For Sub-Inspector Sabina Naz, the new role is both an honour and a significant responsibility. Residents said they expect transparent policing, impartial enforcement of the law, courteous treatment of citizens and timely redress of public complaints.
The appointment is also expected to highlight the professional role of women police officers in maintaining law and order and dealing with community issues.
Residents said citizens also have a responsibility to cooperate with police, respect the law, avoid filing false complaints and report suspicious activities to the relevant authorities.
Community members said maintaining peace and public order is not only the responsibility of police but a shared duty of all sections of society.
The appointment of a female Additional SHO at City Police Station is expected to promote community-friendly policing and strengthen the rule of law in Mardan.
