MARDAN: The district administration has intensified its anti-encroachment campaign by removing illegal structures built over the Koragh Drain at Doshera Chowk, aiming to restore drainage and reduce the risk of urban flooding during the monsoon season.

The operation was supervised by Deputy Commissioner Mardan Wasif Rehman, while Assistant Commissioner Mardan Dr Ahmad Sher Zaman Dogar was also present at the site.

During the operation, permanent encroachments and structures blocking the natural flow of the drain were demolished. Officials said the action would help ensure the uninterrupted movement of rainwater and improve drainage in nearby localities.

The administration has been carrying out a special district-wide campaign for several days against encroachments established on storm-water drains and natural waterways.

Officials said the operation would continue until all permanent encroachments obstructing drains across Mardan district had been removed.

The district administration also warned that strict legal action would be taken against individuals responsible for constructing or maintaining illegal structures on public drains and waterways.

Residents have been urged to cooperate with the authorities, avoid obstructing anti-encroachment operations and refrain from occupying drainage channels.

The administration said keeping storm-water drains clear was essential for protecting neighbourhoods from flooding, particularly during periods of heavy monsoon rainfall
