ISLAMABAD: A committee formed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to introduce reforms at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) has recommended placing the hospital under a Board of Governors with members serving three-year terms.

The recommendation was discussed during the committee’s second meeting, which reviewed measures to improve PIMS’ administrative, medical and governance systems, along with the legal and administrative framework for the proposed reforms.

Under the committee’s recommendations, PIMS could also appoint a Chief Executive Officer from the market, potentially allowing the hospital to recruit a professional with relevant experience outside the existing government structure.

The legal draft for the new PIMS governance framework will be prepared after approval from the prime minister.

The proposed governance changes are part of wider efforts to reform the hospital’s administrative and management structure, according to the committee’s recommendations.
