Rawalpindi, August 1: A Pakistan Army officer embraced martyrdom while five suspected militants were killed during an intelligence-based operation conducted by security forces in the Razmak area of North Waziristan District, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Friday.
According to the military’s media wing, the operation was launched on intelligence regarding the presence of militants in the area. During the exchange of fire, security forces effectively engaged the militants, killing five of them.
ISPR said Major Hafiz Ihsan Elahi, 34, a resident of Mianwali, embraced martyrdom while leading his troops from the front during the intense firefight.
The military said weapons and ammunition were recovered from the slain militants, who, according to the statement, were allegedly involved in attacks against security forces, law enforcement agencies and civilians.
A sanitisation operation is continuing in the area to clear any remaining militants, ISPR added.
The military reiterated that counterterrorism operations under the Azm-e-Istehkam campaign will continue, reaffirming the resolve of Pakistan’s security forces and law enforcement agencies to combat militancy and maintain national security.
