The Punjab government has approved a college bus, new undergraduate programmes and modern educational facilities for Government Degree College for Women Hazro to help female students pursue higher education closer to home.
Former provincial minister and member of the Punjab Chief Minister’s Monitoring Committee Jahangir Khanzada announced the development on Wednesday after visiting educational institutions in Hazro alongside Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat.
The delegation visited girls’ schools in Shadi Khan and Ghourghushti, as well as Government Degree College for Women Hazro, where the minister approved several facilities aimed at promoting girls’ education in the Chach area of Attock district.
Four BS Programmes Planned for Hazro College
According to Jahangir Khanzada, two undergraduate programmes in Mathematics and Economics will be launched immediately, while two additional programmes will be introduced within a fortnight.
The initiative is expected to help students from Hazro and surrounding areas continue their education locally instead of travelling more than 40 kilometres to colleges in Attock.
He also announced that a college bus would reach the institution the following day to facilitate the daily commute of female students.
Khanzada said the approvals had been secured through his special efforts and that practical steps were being taken to improve academic, sports and other facilities at the college.
Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat also announced a grant of Rs100,000 for female students.
Ghourghushti School to Be Upgraded to Higher Secondary Level
During the visit, the education minister inspected Government Girls High School Ghourghushti and reviewed its academic activities, existing facilities and development needs.
He acknowledged the school’s contribution to girls’ education, noting that more than 50 students from neighbouring areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa also attend the institution.
The school has introduced technology education at the matriculation level, giving students exposure to emerging fields alongside conventional subjects.
Rana Sikandar Hayat assured the school administration and local representatives that the government would upgrade the institution from a high school to a higher secondary school. The move would enable girls from Ghourghushti and nearby villages to continue their education beyond matriculation without travelling to distant towns.
New IT and Science Labs, Eight Classrooms Planned
The education minister also announced plans to establish modern information technology and science laboratories to strengthen computer education, practical learning and scientific training.
In addition, he pledged to construct eight more classrooms following the proposed upgradation to accommodate the growing number of students and provide a better learning environment.
He assured the school of government support in meeting its remaining infrastructure and educational requirements, reiterating that improving access to quality education, particularly for girls in rural areas, remained a key priority of the Punjab government.
