SWAT: The suspect arrested in connection with the alleged rape and murder of nine-year-old orphan girl Ishmal denied the charges in court on Friday, as women joined large-scale protests in Madyan for the first time, demanding justice for the child.
Police produced Sultan Mohammad before the court after the completion of his physical remand. Police had previously claimed that the suspect confessed during interrogation and that the alleged murder weapon was recovered from him.
However, during Friday’s court proceedings, Mohammad denied the allegations. The court subsequently sent him to Swat Jail.
Protests Intensify in Madyan
Sultan Mohammad has been accused of allegedly assaulting Ishmal and killing her at his house in Madyan. The allegations have not been established in court, and the accused has denied the charge.
The case has sparked anger across the area, with residents staging repeated protests and calling for a transparent investigation and legal action if the allegations are proven.
On Friday, women took part in the demonstrations in large numbers, alongside children and other residents. Protesters carried placards and banners demanding justice for Ishmal and called for the strongest punishment permissible under the law for the person responsible for her death.
Community Demands Justice
Protesters described the death of the child as a deeply distressing incident for the community and urged the government and police to ensure justice for Ishmal’s family.
They also called for effective measures to prevent similar incidents and ensure the safety of children in the area.
The participation of women in Friday’s demonstration was described by residents as a significant development in Madyan, reflecting the growing public demand for accountability and justice in the case.
