Pakistan, Libya Discuss Defence Cooperation in High-Level GHQ Meeting

RAWALPINDI, June 24, 2026: Libya’s Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan Arab Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Saddam Khalifa Haftar, met Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, at General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi on Wednesday.

The meeting took place during the visiting Libyan military leader’s official engagement in Pakistan. Upon arrival at GHQ, he was presented with a Guard of Honour by a tri-services contingent, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The discussions focused on bilateral defence cooperation, regional security developments, and opportunities to expand military-to-military engagement between Pakistan and Libya.

Defence cooperation and regional security discussed

According to ISPR, both sides reviewed matters of mutual interest and expressed a shared desire to strengthen defence ties. Areas such as professional military training and institutional cooperation were also discussed during the meeting.

Field Marshal Asim Munir reaffirmed Pakistan Army’s commitment to regional peace, stability, and constructive engagement with friendly countries.

The visiting Libyan military leader appreciated the professionalism of the Pakistan Armed Forces and acknowledged their contributions to regional peace and security, ISPR said.
