LAHORE, June 22: Nolakha Presbyterian Church Lahore hosted a Muharram Solidarity Breakfast for participants of Muharram processions and majalis, bringing together Christian and Muslim religious leaders in a gesture of interfaith harmony during Muharram-ul-Haram.
The event, organized under the leadership of Reverend Dr. Majid Abel, was attended by Archbishop Dr. Azad Marshall, Chairman Kul Masalik Board Maulana Asim Makhdoom, Father James Channan, Mufti Ashiq Hussain and other faith leaders. A large number of Shia community members and representatives from different schools of thought also participated.
The gathering was held to promote peace, mutual respect and social cohesion during Muharram, a period of religious significance for Muslims, particularly the Shia community.
Speaking at the event, Reverend Dr. Majid Abel said Muharram teaches patience, sacrifice, compassion and humanity. He said people from different faiths coming together for peace and brotherhood reflected a shared desire among Pakistanis to live with mutual respect.
He said maintaining peace during Muharram was a collective national responsibility and that such initiatives could help strengthen unity across communities.
Archbishop Dr. Azad Marshall and Father James Channan said interfaith dialogue and joint community events were important for building trust and respect among followers of different religions. They said the Muharram Solidarity Breakfast was aimed at encouraging tolerance and social harmony.
Maulana Asim Makhdoom and Mufti Ashiq Hussain said the sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) carries a message of truth, justice, steadfastness and sacrifice for all humanity. They urged followers of all schools of thought to promote unity, tolerance and brotherhood during Muharram-ul-Haram.
Professor Suhail Ahmed said religious scholars, faith leaders and social organizations had an important role in strengthening religious harmony across Pakistan.
The ceremony concluded with special prayers for peace, stability, interfaith harmony and the continuation of unity and brotherhood throughout Muharram-ul-Haram.
