Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Private Schools Regulatory Authority (PSRA) has recommended amendments to the law following the roof collapse at a private school in Dir Colony.

The authority has submitted an initial report to the Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa after the October 15 incident.

According to the report, the PSRA has recommended giving the authority powers to close private schools in cases involving serious violations or unsafe buildings.

Mandatory NOCs Proposed for Private Schools

The authority has also recommended making no-objection certificates (NOCs) from relevant departments mandatory for the registration of private schools.

Under the proposed changes, NOCs from Tehsil Municipal Administrations (TMAs), building control authorities and other relevant institutions would be required before registration.

For schools located in flood-prone areas, the PSRA has recommended making an NOC from the Irrigation Department mandatory.

The authority has further recommended that private school buildings undergo technical safety assessments by the Communications and Works Department or qualified engineering institutions.
