PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to review 74 laws passed during Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) tenure, forming a special committee to examine the legislation and submit recommendations within seven days.
According to a private television report, the provincial Law Department constituted the committee to assess the transparency and legal implications of legislation enacted under the previous PTI administration.
The reported decision follows the imposition of governor’s rule in the province and the formation of a new provincial government.
The committee will examine 74 laws covering 20 provincial departments, including legislation relating to prosecution services, universities and medical teaching institutions.
Laws governing the powers and privileges of provincial assembly members will also be reviewed to identify possible legal shortcomings and determine whether amendments are required.
The committee has been directed to submit a detailed report, along with its findings and recommendations, to the relevant authorities within seven days.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Adviser Samar Haroon Bilour said several laws introduced during the PTI government’s tenure had been passed hastily and without sufficient transparency.
She said reviewing and correcting such legislation had become a priority for the provincial government.
The committee’s recommendations are expected to guide decisions on whether the legislation requires amendments or other corrective measures.
