Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Syed Fakhar Jahan has reaffirmed the provincial government’s zero-tolerance policy against drugs, warning that strict action will be taken against any government official found negligent or involved in narcotics-related activities.
The minister made the remarks while chairing an open public forum at Wadudia Hall in Saidu Sharif, Swat, where government officials, elected representatives, community leaders, and residents discussed concerns about drug trafficking and substance abuse in the Malakand Division.
Public Forum Focuses on Drug Control
The forum was attended by MPA Fazal Hakim Khan Yousafzai, MNA Saleemur Rehman, MPA Sultan Room, DEDAC Chairman Swat Akhtar Khan Advocate, Excise Secretary Khalid Ilyas, Commissioner Masood Ahmed, Regional Police Officer Syed Fida Hassan Shah, District Police Officer Muhammad Umar, and other senior officials.
Participants raised complaints and suggestions regarding narcotics trafficking, prompting the minister to direct officials to resolve some issues immediately while referring others for legal action.
Minister Warns Officials of Strict Action
Addressing the gathering, Syed Fakhar Jahan said the provincial government is pursuing stronger anti-narcotics measures under its current policy framework.
He warned that any Excise Department or police official found involved in drug trafficking or providing protection to drug dealers would face immediate removal from office and legal proceedings.
The minister also instructed law enforcement agencies to intensify operations against drug traffickers across the province.
Comprehensive Anti-Drug Strategy Planned
Syed Fakhar Jahan directed the Commissioner of Malakand Division to prepare a comprehensive strategy and action plan to combat drug trafficking throughout the division and submit it to the provincial government.
The proposed plan is expected to strengthen coordinated enforcement efforts against narcotics networks.
Public Cooperation Urged
Speaking at the event, MPA Fazal Hakim Khan Yousafzai described narcotics as a major threat to young people and society.
He said eliminating drug abuse requires cooperation between government institutions and the public, adding that the provincial government is utilizing available resources to strengthen its anti-narcotics campaign.
