LONDON: King Charles III recited a Hadith in Arabic while welcoming Sultan Haitham bin Tariq of Oman on a historic state visit to the United Kingdom, praising the Omani people’s character and hospitality.

The visit, reported on October 22, 2026, marks the first official state visit to Britain by an Omani Sultan in 44 years, highlighting the longstanding diplomatic relationship between the two countries.

According to international media reports, King Charles referred to a Hadith from Sahih Muslim during his ceremonial address, drawing attention to the Prophet Muhammad’s (peace be upon him) remarks about the people of Oman.

The Hadith conveys that if people were to visit Oman, its inhabitants would neither insult nor strike them.

The British monarch used the reference to acknowledge the hospitality, good character and respectful traditions associated with the Omani people.

King Charles praises Oman’s diplomatic role

Beyond the cultural and religious significance of his remarks, King Charles praised Oman’s contribution to regional peace and stability, particularly its diplomatic efforts in the Middle East.

He acknowledged the Omani leadership’s role in promoting peaceful solutions to regional disputes and supporting efforts to keep the Strait of Hormuz open.

The strategic waterway is an important international shipping route, particularly for global energy supplies, making its security a major concern for regional and international governments.

Oman has maintained a diplomatic approach focused on dialogue and mediation in regional affairs, including efforts to reduce tensions and encourage peaceful engagement.

The Sultan’s visit also underscored the historical relationship between Britain and Oman, with the royal welcome providing an opportunity to recognise the two countries’ longstanding ties.

King Charles’s decision to recite a Hadith in Arabic became a distinctive moment of the visit, combining cultural recognition with diplomatic appreciation for Oman’s people and leadership.
