SYDNEY: Former Australian cricketer Usman Khawaja has rejected a viral social media post that linked one of his old tweets to a recent protest in France.
The post circulating online combined a photograph from a protest showing a person holding a Palestinian flag with an old tweet attributed to Khawaja. The combination led to claims that his message was related to the French demonstration.
Khawaja responded on X, saying the tweet was posted two years ago in connection with a football match and had been shared in a misleading context.
“Stop spreading lies,” Khawaja said in his response, clarifying the original context of the post.
The incident comes as protests over public services and the education system have continued in France, with clashes between demonstrators and police reported during some rallies.
