ISLAMABAD – Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has said that his remarks regarding Azad Jammu and Kashmir were being “misrepresented” by certain elements, adding that his statement was clear, factual and based on historical context.
The defence minister said it is not possible to separate Kashmir from Pakistan or Pakistan from Kashmir, emphasizing that the issue is deeply rooted in history and decades of struggle and sacrifice.
He said the migration of Kashmiris to Pakistan in 1947 and their sacrifices form an important part of national history. He added that the Kashmir movement reflects long-standing resistance, including sacrifices and imprisonment in Indian-administered Kashmir.
Reaffirmation of Pakistan’s position on Kashmir
Khawaja Asif stated that Pakistan’s position on Kashmir is based on the sacrifices of martyrs over multiple conflicts and a consistent policy stance. He said these contributions should not be diminished or disregarded.
He also stressed that any attempt to undermine the Kashmir cause should be strongly responded to, urging respect for the sacrifices of Kashmiris and 1947 migrants.
Broader foreign policy remarks
The minister further said Pakistan continues to play a constructive role in promoting peace and stability globally, adding that its efforts in the Muslim world and the Gulf region are widely recognized.
He reiterated that the definition of Kashmiri identity is rooted in decades of struggle and sacrifice rather than formal documentation.
