KARACHI: Karachi police have arrested three suspects in connection with the fatal shooting of Dr Akash Kumar, a 28-year-old doctor who was killed during an alleged robbery near Teen Talwar in Clifton earlier this week.
Police said the arrests were made within 36 hours of the incident after investigators analyzed extensive CCTV footage and tracked the suspects’ movements. Authorities also recovered part of the stolen cash during the operation.
Investigation Led to Swift Arrests
Addressing a press conference, South Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Asad Raza said the suspects were arrested within the jurisdiction of the Defence police station.
According to the investigation, the suspects arrived on two motorcycles, while another vehicle was also allegedly used during the crime. Police believe one suspect carried out surveillance before the robbery and informed the others when the victim reached the bank.
DIG Raza said investigators reviewed more than 100 CCTV recordings to reconstruct the sequence of events and identify those involved.
Stolen Cash Recovered
Police said a portion of the money taken during the robbery has been recovered from the arrested suspects.
Authorities added that efforts are continuing to recover the remaining amount and complete the investigation.
Police Search for Additional Suspects
Speaking separately on Geo News, Sindh Inspector General of Police Javed Alam Odho said two additional suspects have been identified and are expected to be arrested.
He said CCTV footage played a critical role in solving the case and highlighted the importance of surveillance systems in criminal investigations.
Safe City Project and Crime Trends
The Sindh police chief said the first phase of Karachi’s Safe City project has been completed, with approximately 1,150 surveillance cameras installed, while the second phase is nearly 90% complete.
