A doctor was shot dead during an apparent robbery near Clifton Three Swords in Karachi after withdrawing cash from a bank, police said. The attackers allegedly fled with Rs2.5 million, while the victim later died from his injuries in hospital.
The incident occurred in the Frere police station jurisdiction and has prompted a high-level police investigation. Authorities are working to identify and arrest those responsible.
Victim Shot After Leaving Bank
According to police, the victim, identified as Dr. Akash, son of Seth Sero Mal, had withdrawn Rs5 million from a bank before leaving in his Alto car.
Police said the armed suspects targeted him shortly after he exited the bank. During the robbery, the attackers allegedly opened fire, critically injuring the doctor before escaping with Rs2.5 million in cash.
Bank security guards reportedly returned fire, but the suspects managed to flee the scene.
Doctor Succumbs to Injuries
Dr. Akash was rushed to a nearby private hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
His body was subsequently shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for legal formalities.
IG Sindh Orders Detailed Investigation
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Javed Alam Odho took notice of the incident and sought a detailed report from the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) South.
According to IGP spokesperson Syed Saad Ali, the police chief directed investigators to conduct a transparent and comprehensive inquiry, determine the motive behind the killing, and ensure the swift arrest of those involved.
