NEW DELHI: Bollywood actor and BJP lawmaker Kangana Ranaut has once again sparked controversy with remarks targeting India’s Generation Z, days after referring to the group as the “gutter generation.”
The controversy began after the student organisation Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) staged a protest in New Delhi over the paper-leak issue. Following the demonstration, Ranaut described Gen Z as a “gutter generation,” drawing criticism from social media users and several prominent figures in the entertainment industry.
Amid the backlash, Ranaut later appeared to soften her position, saying she was pleased that the younger generation was aware and able to understand issues around them.
However, in a fresh interaction with the media, the actor-turned-politician returned to the controversial comparison.
Ranaut argued that if people themselves describe their group as “cockroaches,” linking them with gutters was a natural conclusion. She said she would object if someone described her as living in a gutter, but added that people who identify themselves as cockroaches should expect such a comparison.
Her latest remarks have reignited the debate over her comments about Gen Z, with the issue continuing to attract attention on social media.
Ranaut, who is also a member of India’s Parliament, has frequently made outspoken comments on political and social issues, often drawing both support and criticism.
