MATIARI, SINDH: The Government of Japan has handed over newly constructed classrooms, science laboratory facilities and a student transport vehicle to Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto High School in Village Khandu, District Matiari, under its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) Programme.
The handover ceremony was attended by Consul General of Japan in Karachi HATTORI Masaru, school representatives, local officials, teachers, students and members of the community. The project is aimed at improving educational facilities and access for students, particularly girls, at the local secondary school.
Three classrooms and science laboratory facilities added
The school has provided free education to students in Grades 6 to 10 since 2016. However, limited classroom space, inadequate science facilities and insufficient transport capacity had created challenges for the school, including difficulties in providing safe transportation for female students.
Under the project, Japan provided three new classrooms, 44 pieces of science laboratory equipment and furniture, as well as one student transport vehicle.
The additional facilities are expected to improve the school’s learning environment and expand students’ access to science education and transportation.
Focus on education opportunities for girls
Speaking at the ceremony, Consul General HATTORI Masaru expressed hope that the project would create better educational opportunities for children in the area and encourage more students, particularly girls, to pursue science-related studies.
The Government of Japan said it has implemented more than 400 projects across Pakistan and continues to support initiatives in education, healthcare and community development.
Through the GGP Programme, Japan said it will continue working with local partners on projects focused on human security and sustainable development in underserved communities
