HONG KONG, September 9, 2026: Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan attended the opening ceremony of the 11th Belt and Road Summit in Hong Kong, engaging with senior political leaders, ministers, diplomats and business representatives from participating countries.
Ahead of the summit’s opening, the minister attended a welcome banquet hosted by Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee.
The gathering was attended by ministers from Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, the Deputy Prime Minister of Laos, China’s Vice Minister of Commerce, senior Hong Kong officials, diplomats and business leaders.
During the banquet, Jam Kamal Khan held discussions with fellow ministers and dignitaries on the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), regional connectivity, trade cooperation and the broader role of economic partnerships in promoting development.
The minister also held an interaction with Chief Executive John Lee and met China’s Vice Minister of Commerce, Bangladesh’s Commerce Minister, Sri Lanka’s Minister of Trade and Industry and other participating leaders.
On September 9, Jam Kamal Khan attended the formal opening session of the summit.
Addressing the ceremony, John Lee highlighted the importance of the Belt and Road Initiative in strengthening connectivity, expanding economic opportunities and promoting cooperation among participating economies.
The opening session was also addressed by the Prime Minister of Uzbekistan, the Vice President of Uruguay and the Deputy Prime Minister of Laos. The speakers emphasized deeper economic cooperation, increased trade and investment, stronger regional connectivity and shared development under the Belt and Road framework.
Participants highlighted the potential of closer economic linkages and mutually beneficial cooperation to create new opportunities for businesses and support sustainable economic growth across Belt and Road partner countries and the wider global economy.
Pakistan Showcases Trade and Investment Potential
Pakistan also maintained a dedicated presence at the summit, showcasing its trade, investment and business opportunities to international delegates, investors and business representatives.
Jam Kamal Khan is scheduled to deliver a Special Address on September 10, where he is expected to outline Pakistan’s perspective on trade, regional connectivity, economic cooperation and opportunities for deeper engagement with Belt and Road partner countries.
The commerce minister’s participation and meetings reflect Pakistan’s efforts to strengthen regional partnerships, expand international trade, improve connectivity and promote mutually beneficial economic cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative.
