ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Police has assured the Islamabad High Court (IHC) that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders who filed a petition against alleged harassment would not be harassed in the future.
Justice Raja Inaam Ameen Minhas heard the petition filed by PTI leaders, including Malik Amir and Shoaib Shaheen, concerning allegations of police harassment and raids on the residences of party leaders.
SSP Operations Qazi Ali Raza and DSP Legal Sajid Cheema appeared before the court following its directions.
During the hearing, police officials told the court that the petitioners had not been harassed by the police and assured the court that they would not be subjected to harassment in the future.
The officials further stated that where a first information report (FIR) has been registered against an individual, police action is taken in accordance with the law.
The petition had been filed amid heightened security in Islamabad ahead of PTI’s planned September 27 long march. Earlier, the petitioners’ counsel had alleged that police were conducting raids at the homes of PTI leaders without proper legal authorisation.
On September 16, the IHC had also restrained authorities from harassing or arresting Malik Amir, Shoaib Shaheen and other named PTI leaders while seeking a response from the Islamabad Police.
Following the police assurance during Thursday’s hearing, the Islamabad High Court disposed of the petition.
The development comes as security arrangements remain heightened in the federal capital ahead of the PTI’s planned protest activities.
