ZURICH, June 3: Iran’s national football team has been issued visas for Mexico ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026, clearing the way for the squad to establish its tournament base camp in the country.

The development comes as Iran finalizes preparations for the expanded global tournament, with the team expected to travel from Türkiye to Mexico on June 6.

According to reports, Mexico will serve as Iran’s base during the competition, while the team’s group-stage matches are scheduled to be played in the United States.

Preparations underway for World Cup campaign

The Iranian squad is currently in Türkiye as part of its pre-tournament preparations before departing for North America.

Securing travel documents was considered an important logistical step ahead of the tournament, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Mexico and Canada.

Group-stage matches scheduled in United States

Iran will play its group-stage fixtures in the United States while operating from its base camp in Mexico during the tournament.

The FIFA World Cup 2026 is set to begin on June 11 and will bring together national teams from around the world in the largest edition of the competition to date.
