International hockey is set to return to Pakistan after a gap of 24 years, with South Korea confirming that its national team will tour the country for a bilateral series next month.
The development marks a significant step in Pakistan’s efforts to revive international hockey events and bring senior national teams back to the country. The matches between Pakistan and South Korea are scheduled to be played in Islamabad in July.
According to officials of the Pakistan Hockey Federation, the Korea Hockey Association has formally confirmed the participation of its national team.
First senior national team visit in decades
South Korea will become the first senior national hockey team to visit Pakistan in more than two decades, marking a milestone for the sport’s revival in the country.
PHF President Mohyuddin Wani said the final schedule for the series is expected to be finalized within the next two to three days.
The upcoming tour follows a gradual increase in international hockey activity in Pakistan. In 2024, Germany’s junior team, along with hockey clubs from the Netherlands and Germany, visited the country for matches and training engagements.
However, the South Korean side will be the first senior national team to play international hockey in Pakistan since the long absence of top-level international competition.
Officials hope the series will help restore Pakistan’s position as a host for international hockey and encourage more teams to tour the country in the future.
