The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has awarded a bonus of 1.31 billion rupees ($14.24 million) to the Indian cricket team following their historic victory at the T20 World Cup. The bonus, which is six times higher than the official prize money of $2.34 million earned for the win, was announced on Tuesday.
India claimed their third T20 World Cup title with a commanding 96-run victory over New Zealand in the final held in Ahmedabad. The BCCI’s additional reward of $14.24 million surpasses the tournament’s overall prize pool of $11.25 million, further highlighting the Indian board’s recognition of the team’s achievement.

“The Board congratulates the players, support staff, and selectors once again on this historic achievement and wishes them continued success in the future,” said the BCCI in a statement.
This is not the first time the BCCI has rewarded Indian cricket success with substantial bonuses. In the previous year, the team was awarded a $6.72 million bonus for winning the Champions Trophy, a sum triple that of the $2.24 million the team received for the title.
Looking ahead, India’s next goal is to bring home a gold medal from the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, according to captain Suryakumar Yadav.
