NEW DELHI: India have rested Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja for the one-off Test against Afghanistan next month, with Shubman Gill named captain of the 15-member squad.
The match will begin on June 6 in New Chandigarh. Bumrah has been left out as part of workload management, while Jadeja is unavailable after picking up a niggle during the Indian Premier League.
KL Rahul has been named vice-captain for the Test, replacing Rishabh Pant in the role. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar said Pant remained an important part of India’s Test batting line-up despite the change.
Left-arm spinners Manav Suthar and Harsh Dubey, along with Punjab fast bowler Gurnoor Brar, have received maiden Test call-ups.
India also announced their ODI squad for the three-match series against Afghanistan, with Gill set to lead again. Virat Kohli, who has retired from Test and T20 internationals, has been included in the one-day squad.
Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya have also been named in the ODI squad, but their participation will depend on fitness. Pant has not been included in the ODI squad.
The three ODIs are scheduled for June 14, 17 and 20.
