Havildar Lalak Jan Shaheed remembered for Kargil bravery on martyrdom anniversary

RAWALPINDI, July 7, 2026: Pakistan’s armed forces on Tuesday paid tribute to Havildar Lalak Jan Shaheed, Nishan-e-Haider, on his martyrdom anniversary, honouring his courage and sacrifice during the Kargil conflict.

According to the ISPR, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, along with the chiefs of the Pakistan Navy and Pakistan Air Force, joined the nation in commemorating the legacy of Havildar Lalak Jan Shaheed.

Havildar Lalak Jan embraced martyrdom on July 7, 1999, while defending his post during intense fighting in Kargil. The ISPR said he continued to resist enemy attacks despite sustaining critical injuries and refused evacuation from the battlefield.

The military said his sacrifice remains a symbol of courage, resilience and devotion to duty. It added that his example continues to inspire present and future generations to uphold the values of honour, patriotism and service to the country.

The armed forces also reaffirmed their commitment to protecting Pakistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, while preserving the legacy of the country’s martyrs.
