A major fire at Islamabad’s H-9 Sunday Bazaar has destroyed 335 shops and stalls, causing extensive property losses, rescue officials confirmed on Wednesday.

The incident disrupted commercial activity in one of the capital’s largest weekly markets, where hundreds of vendors were affected. Authorities said no casualties have been reported so far, while cooling operations continued after firefighters brought the blaze under control following several hours of effort.

According to rescue officials, the fire is believed to have started due to a short circuit. The situation escalated when batteries stored in some stalls reportedly exploded, increasing the intensity and spread of the flames across the market area.

Rescue teams from multiple units responded to the emergency and managed to contain the fire after a prolonged operation. Officials added that 335 shops and stalls were affected in total, with damage assessments still underway.

Further investigations are expected to determine the exact cause of the fire and evaluate safety conditions at the market.
