Islamabad, July 22, 2026: The federal government has ruled out any immediate fertilizer shortage and asked manufacturers to reduce urea prices as part of efforts to protect farmers from higher input costs ahead of the upcoming crop season.
Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain made the statement during a meeting with Punjab Agriculture Minister Syed Muhammad Ashiq Hussain Shah to review fertilizer availability, prices and distribution across the country.
Rana Tanveer said fertilizer plants were operating normally, sufficient stocks were available in the market and there was no indication of a supply shortage in the coming months.
He said the government was consulting provincial authorities, fertilizer companies and other stakeholders to develop a coordinated strategy for maintaining price stability and improving supply-chain management.
The minister said fertilizer manufacturers had been asked to lower urea prices in the interest of farmers, who are facing rising production costs ahead of the next sowing season.
“There is no shortage of fertilizers in Pakistan,” he said, adding that adequate quantities were available and production remained uninterrupted.
The meeting also reviewed measures to prevent market distortions and ensure that fertilizer reached growers on time and at reasonable prices.
Punjab Agriculture Minister Syed Muhammad Ashiq Hussain Shah assured the federal government of the province’s cooperation in monitoring supplies and improving distribution.
He said stronger coordination between the federation and provinces could help curb artificial price increases, reduce supply disruptions and safeguard farmers’ interests.
Both sides agreed to maintain close contact with fertilizer producers and provincial governments to ensure stable prices and uninterrupted availability across the country.
The government said the measures were aimed at supporting agricultural output and protecting national food security during the coming crop season.
