KARACHI: The value of Pakistan’s official gold reserves increased by Rs392 billion during fiscal year 2025-26, driven largely by a sharp rise in international gold prices.
According to official figures, the country’s gold reserves reached 64.82 tonnes by June 30, 2026, after increasing by 70 kilograms during the fiscal year.
The value of the reserves stood at Rs2.334 trillion at the end of FY2025-26, compared with Rs1.942 trillion a year earlier.
In dollar terms, Pakistan’s official gold reserves were valued at $8.39 billion as of June 30, 2026.
The increase came as global gold prices rose by 22.5% during FY2025-26, significantly lifting the rupee value of the gold held by the State Bank of Pakistan.
Pakistan had also recorded a sharp increase in the value of its gold reserves during the previous fiscal year. In FY2024-25, the reserves gained Rs591 billion in value as international gold prices climbed.
The latest figures show that while Pakistan added only a relatively small amount of physical gold during FY2025-26, the rise in international prices substantially increased the overall market value of the country’s holdings.
Gold reserves form part of a country’s broader reserve assets and can gain importance during periods of global economic uncertainty, particularly when international bullion prices rise.
The increase in the value of Pakistan’s gold holdings therefore reflects both the continued strength in global gold markets and the impact of higher bullion prices on the country’s official reserve position.
