ISLAMABAD, October 26, 2026: The Geely EX5 is emerging as a potential competitor to the BYD Atto 3 in Pakistan’s growing electric vehicle market, offering a larger battery, more powerful motor and additional premium features. However, its final local specifications and pricing will determine whether it can challenge the already available BYD SUV.

While the BYD Atto 3 is currently offered in Pakistan, the Geely EX5 has only been showcased locally, with its official price and Pakistan-specific equipment yet to be announced.

A comparison of the Thailand-specification Geely EX5 and Pakistan-market BYD Atto 3 Advance reveals differences in performance, battery capacity, interior technology and practicality.

Geely EX5 offers more power and space

The Geely EX5 features a 160 kW electric motor producing 320 Nm of torque, compared with the BYD Atto 3’s 150 kW motor delivering 310 Nm.

Both SUVs use front-wheel-drive configurations, but the EX5 accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 7.6 seconds, slightly faster than the Atto 3’s 7.9 seconds.

The Geely model also has a higher claimed top speed of 175 km/h, compared with 160 km/h for its BYD rival.

In terms of dimensions, the EX5 measures 4,615 mm in length, making it 160 mm longer than the Atto 3. It is also wider and taller, with a slightly longer wheelbase.

The EX5 offers 461 litres of luggage capacity, compared with 440 litres in the Atto 3, potentially making it more suitable for families requiring additional storage space.

However, the Atto 3 has a marginal advantage in ground clearance, offering 175 mm against the EX5’s 173 mm.

Battery capacity and driving range

One of the most significant differences between the two electric SUVs is battery capacity.

The Thailand-spec Geely EX5 comes with a 68.39 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, while the Pakistan-spec BYD Atto 3 Advance uses a 49.92 kWh Blade Battery.

This gives the EX5 approximately 37 percent more battery capacity.

Geely claims a driving range of 450 kilometres under the WLTP testing cycle, while BYD quotes 410 kilometres for the Atto 3 under the NEDC standard.

However, the two range figures cannot be directly compared because WLTP and NEDC use different testing procedures. Actual driving range will depend on road conditions, driving habits, temperature and other factors.

The EX5 also has a quoted DC charging time of 20 minutes, although the relevant battery percentage range has not been specified.

The Atto 3 takes approximately 30 minutes to charge from 30 to 80 percent using DC fast charging.

Interior technology gives Geely an advantage

The Geely EX5 offers a more extensive technology package in its Thailand-market configuration.

It features a 15.4-inch infotainment display, a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, a 13.8-inch head-up display and a 16-speaker Flyme Sound audio system.

The BYD Atto 3 comes with a slightly larger 15.6-inch rotating infotainment screen, a five-inch instrument display and a six-speaker audio system.

Both vehicles support Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and offer convenience features such as powered tailgates, panoramic sunroofs and surround-view cameras.

The EX5 also offers ventilated front seats in the compared specification, although their availability in Pakistan remains unconfirmed.

Safety features remain competitive

Both electric SUVs offer advanced driver assistance technologies, including autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, blind spot detection and rear cross-traffic alerts.

The BYD Atto 3 has seven airbags, compared with six in the Thailand-spec Geely EX5.

Geely also offers intelligent cruise control and additional collision mitigation technologies.

However, the number of safety features alone does not establish which vehicle provides better overall protection, as crash-test performance and real-world system effectiveness remain important considerations.

Which electric SUV makes more sense for Pakistan?

The Geely EX5 appears stronger on paper in several areas, particularly battery capacity, motor output, cabin technology and luggage space.

Its larger dimensions and premium equipment could appeal to buyers seeking a spacious family electric SUV with additional comfort features.

The BYD Atto 3, meanwhile, benefits from an established presence in Pakistan, published local specifications and a battery warranty of eight years or 160,000 kilometres.

Its slightly higher ground clearance, smaller dimensions and potentially easier manoeuvrability may also appeal to urban drivers.

For Pakistani buyers, the final decision will depend heavily on Geely’s official launch price, local equipment, warranty coverage and after-sales support.

Until those details are confirmed, the BYD Atto 3 remains the more clearly defined purchase option, while the Geely EX5 presents a potentially attractive alternative for buyers willing to wait for its local launch.
