Bollywood’s former superstar and recent recluse Mamta Kulkarni has finally addressed her controversial semi-nude photoshoot. Dominating the Bollywood scene in the 90s, Mamta made headlines recently after returning to India from abroad and announcing her spiritual renunciation, keeping her in the media spotlight.
Throughout her short career, the actress was embroiled in multiple controversies, from bold photoshoots to alleged connections with drug dealers and the underworld.
In a recent appearance on Rajat Sharma’s show Aap Ki Adalat, Mamta discussed various topics, including her infamous semi-nude photoshoot for the Stardust magazine cover. She claimed she was in the ninth grade at the time and was shown a picture of Hollywood actress Demi Moore, which didn’t seem inappropriate to her.
Mamta further stated that she was a “virgin” at the time, acknowledging that this might be hard for many to believe. She explained that while some believe aspiring actors will do anything to enter Bollywood, and while some might choose that path for money, it wasn’t the case for her.
She admitted that she lacked understanding at the time, saying, “I didn’t fully grasp what nudity meant. If you’re not sexually aware, you don’t associate nudity with obscenity.”
When questioned about performing on bold lyrics, Mamta remarked that even dancers like Madhuri Dixit don’t focus on the lyrics but rather concentrate on the dance steps.
