British tennis player Jodie Burrage has reportedly received death threats on social media following her defeat in a singles match on the WTA Tour, marking her return to competition after a 16-month absence.
According to reports, Burrage, who is ranked 474th in the world, was eliminated from the Chennai Open after losing to Indian player Vaishnavi Adkar in the first round.
The incident came to light after Burrage shared a video on her Instagram account showing abusive messages she had received following the match. The messages reportedly included offensive language and death threats.
Reacting to the abuse, the British player expressed her disappointment, saying that her return to the tour had been met with a harsh welcome and reminded her why she had stepped away from tennis.
