Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is reportedly considering the addition of foreign consultants to the national team coaching setup, with former Australia fast bowler Shaun Tait and former New Zealand batter Martin Guptill among the names linked to possible roles.
According to media reports, the PCB is in discussions with Shaun Tait over a potential appointment as bowling consultant. Tait previously served as Pakistan’s bowling coach during 2022-23. The PCB has also advertised a vacancy for a bowling coach, with applications open until October 8, 2026.
Reports also indicate that the PCB has contacted Martin Guptill regarding a possible fielding consultant role, with discussions said to be progressing toward an agreement.
Tait Previously Worked With Pakistan
Tait, a former Australia fast bowler, was Pakistan’s bowling coach in 2022-23. More recently, he was associated with Bangladesh but reportedly declined a full three-format coaching role because of family commitments.
The potential return in a consultant capacity would come as the PCB reviews its specialist coaching positions.
PCB Reviewing Specialist Coaching Roles
The PCB has been recruiting for specialist coaching positions following changes within the support staff. The board’s official team-management announcements earlier in 2026 listed Ashley Noffke as bowling coach and Shane McDermott as fielding coach for the Pakistan men’s side.
The latest reports about Tait and Guptill have not yet been confirmed through a formal PCB appointment announcement. Any final appointments would therefore depend on the outcome of discussions and the board’s recruitment process.
