ISLAMABAD: Ethiopia and COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI) have discussed expanding academic cooperation through faculty exchanges, joint scientific research and collaboration in emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence and robotics.

Ethiopian Ambassador Dr. Oumer H. Oba hosted COMSATS Rector Dr. Raheel Qamar and his delegation at the Ethiopian Embassy in Islamabad on Thursday, October 22, during a traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony.

The meeting followed the ambassador’s recent visit to the COMSATS University campus, where both sides explored opportunities to strengthen educational and scientific cooperation between Pakistan and Ethiopia.

During the discussions, Ambassador Oba proposed initiating faculty exchange programmes as a practical first step towards developing broader institutional partnerships.

He suggested that such exchanges could eventually lead to joint research projects, academic publications and cooperation in scientific and technological fields.

Both sides also discussed opportunities for student exchanges and collaborative research in artificial intelligence, robotics and other emerging technologies.

The ambassador briefed the visiting delegation on Ethiopia’s tourism potential, cultural heritage and history, highlighting the country’s association with the origins of coffee.

He explained that the traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony represents an important cultural practice that promotes social harmony and strengthens community relationships.

Dr. Raheel Qamar welcomed the discussions and invited Ethiopian universities to visit Pakistan and establish academic partnerships with COMSATS.

He emphasised the importance of educational cooperation in advancing shared development goals under the framework of South-South Cooperation.

The rector also appreciated Ethiopia’s coffee culture and assured the ambassador of his full support for strengthening educational and research collaboration between the two countries.

The engagement reflects continuing efforts to develop academic links between Pakistan and Ethiopia, particularly in science, technology and higher education.
