The Delhi High Court has issued notice to the makers of Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy after Bollywood actor Salman Khan sought interim relief against the film’s production, promotion and release.
Salman Khan has argued that the film may violate his personality and publicity rights by using visual elements and character details that could lead audiences to associate the project with him without permission.
According to reports, Khan’s legal team told the court that promotional material for the film includes references that resemble the actor’s public image. The plea cited a character allegedly shown wearing a bracelet similar to Khan’s well-known turquoise bracelet.
The petition also raised concerns that scenes, characters or promotional content linked to the film could connect Khan to the 1998 blackbuck poaching case in a way that may affect his reputation.
Producers Deny Film Is Based on Salman Khan
Film producer Amit Jani has denied the allegations, saying the project is not based on Salman Khan’s life. He has maintained that the film focuses on the Bishnoi community and its relationship with wildlife conservation.
The legal dispute comes after the film’s teaser and promotional material drew attention online. Khan’s plea seeks restrictions on the film’s release and related publicity while the court considers the matter.
Next Hearing Set for June 19
The Delhi High Court issued notice on Khan’s application and sought a response from the film’s makers. The matter is scheduled to be heard on June 19.
The case has renewed discussion around celebrity personality rights in India, particularly when films or promotional campaigns appear to draw from real-life controversies involving public figures.
