KARACHI: The DALFA Farmers League Cricket Tournament has officially begun at Naya Nazimabad Gymkhana with a colourful opening ceremony featuring fireworks and the unveiling of the tournament trophy.
The tournament has been organized by the Dairy Agriculture Livestock Farmers Association (DALFA) to provide farmers and their families with an opportunity to participate in sports and showcase their cricketing talent.
PPP leader and Sindh Chief Minister’s Advisor Najmi Alam, who attended the opening ceremony as chief guest, welcomed the hosting of the league at Naya Nazimabad. He praised DALFA Chairman Haris Mithiani for the initiative and expressed hope that the tournament would help identify new cricketing talent.
Alam, a cricket enthusiast, also commented on the recent performance of Pakistan’s national cricket team, saying disappointing results had affected public interest in the sport.
Farmers Take to the Cricket Field
DALFA Chairman Haris Mithiani said the public had responded positively to the association’s cattle show and that the farmers’ league was an effort to expand its activities into sports.
He said the tournament would provide farmers and their children with a platform to demonstrate their abilities on the cricket field.
Officials and players representing all 10 participating teams took part in a march-past during the opening ceremony. An exhibition match between tournament administrators and team owners was also played on the first day.
A large number of citizens attended the event, along with Naya Nazimabad Gymkhana President Syed Muhammad Talha, SMS Gymkhana Director Javed Ali, P-House Head Adeel Patel, PPP leader Faisal Shaikh and tournament organizer Muhammad Hammad.
