LONDON: American R&B singer Chris Brown could face up to three years in prison in connection with a fight at a London nightclub in 2023 after pleading guilty to involvement in the incident.

According to the Associated Press, Brown appeared at Southwark Crown Court on Monday as the case moved toward sentencing. The 37-year-old singer was seen arriving at court wearing a black mask, sunglasses and a black leather jacket.

The case relates to an incident at Tape nightclub in Mayfair in February 2023, where music producer Abraham Diaw was allegedly struck with a bottle during a fight.

Brown initially denied hitting Diaw. Prosecutors later said surveillance footage from the nightclub captured the confrontation involving a group of people.

In July, Brown pleaded guilty to one charge related to involvement in the fight. Prosecutors subsequently withdrew more serious allegations, including assault, attempted grievous bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon.

Brown’s friend and vocal coach, Omololu Akinlolu, also pleaded guilty to involvement in the incident and is awaiting sentencing.

Following the incident, Brown left the UK. He was arrested at a hotel in Manchester in May 2025 after arriving in the city for a concert. He was later released on £5 million bail and subsequently continued his European and North American tour.

Brown rose to fame as a teenager after his breakthrough in 2005 and has won two Grammy Awards for Best R&B Album, for F.A.M.E. in 2011 and 11:11 (Deluxe) in 2025.

The singer has also faced several legal controversies during his career. In 2009, he pleaded guilty in a case involving an assault on then-girlfriend Rihanna. In 2019, he was detained by French police in connection with a rape allegation but was later released without charge.
