BEIJING: A symposium for China’s social sciences sector was held in Beijing on Sunday to study and implement Xi Jinping Thought on Culture, with participants calling for faster development of a Chinese intellectual system in philosophy and social sciences.

The meeting brought together representatives from the philosophy and social sciences community to discuss theoretical research, cultural development and the role of academic work in supporting Chinese modernization.

Li Shulei, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, attended the symposium and delivered a speech.

Participants said China’s philosophy and social sciences sector had made steady progress in knowledge innovation, theoretical innovation and methodological innovation since the 18th National Congress of the CPC in 2012.

They called for deeper study and academic interpretation of the Party’s new theories, along with more research on major theoretical and practical issues related to Chinese modernization.

The symposium also urged greater efforts to promote the inheritance and development of Chinese culture, as well as exchanges and mutual learning between civilizations.

Participants said these efforts would support the high-quality development of philosophy and social sciences and contribute intellectual support to China’s modernization drive.
