ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority has sealed three major buildings in Islamabad’s Blue Area over non-compliance with fire and life safety requirements, as the civic agency intensifies enforcement across the federal capital.
The affected buildings are Shaheed-e-Millat Secretariat, the State Life Building and the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan building. CDA said the action followed earlier fire safety observations that had not been addressed within the required timeframe.
The enforcement drive is being carried out under the directions of CDA Chairman Sohail Ashraf, who has ordered a zero-tolerance approach toward serious fire safety violations.
Fire Safety Inspections Intensified
CDA’s Fire and Emergency Services Directorate has been inspecting buildings across Islamabad for deficiencies in fire prevention systems, emergency exits, firefighting arrangements, evacuation preparedness and other life safety measures.
The Building Control Section has also been directed to ensure that identified shortcomings are rectified within the prescribed period.
According to CDA, buildings that fail to meet mandatory safety requirements will continue to face action under applicable rules and regulations.
Chairman Orders Strict Compliance
Sohail Ashraf directed relevant CDA formations to closely monitor compliance and ensure that safety observations are followed by corrective measures.
He said no building, institution or organisation would be allowed to compromise public safety by ignoring essential fire prevention and emergency response requirements.
CDA said the sealing action demonstrates that its fire safety campaign is moving beyond inspections and into enforcement where serious deficiencies remain unresolved.
Public and Private Buildings Asked to Review Safety Measures
The authority has urged government departments, public-sector organisations, commercial establishments and private building owners to review their fire safety arrangements and ensure compliance with prescribed standards.
CDA stressed the importance of properly maintained firefighting equipment, unobstructed emergency exits, evacuation planning and adherence to safety protocols.
The authority said building administrations would be given an opportunity to address deficiencies, but continued non-compliance with essential fire and life safety requirements would not be tolerated.
