ISLAMABAD: The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) Islamabad has registered a case against Noreen Niazi, sister of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder Imran Khan, over allegations that she spread false and inflammatory claims against the state, state institutions, and the armed forces through a podcast interview and social media.

According to the first information report, the case was filed on behalf of the state by NCCIA Assistant Sub-Inspector Ibrahim Farooq under Sections 20 and 26-A of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act, along with Sections 505 and 508 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

The FIR alleges that Niazi made “false and baseless” accusations against Pakistan and its institutions, including the armed forces, during a podcast interview. It further claims that the statements were intended to undermine public confidence in state institutions, create fear and unrest, and damage the reputation of national security bodies.

Investigators also alleged that clips from the interview were shared and circulated through multiple accounts on X, formerly Twitter, amplifying what the complaint described as provocative, defamatory, and threatening content.

The FIR claims that Niazi attempted to discredit the armed forces’ reported achievements during “Marka-e-Haq” and promoted a narrative intended to generate mistrust, fear, and hostility toward state institutions.

According to the complaint, Niazi was issued several notices directing her to record her statement and join the investigation. The case was registered after the competent authority reviewed the initial evidence, officials said.

The investigation will also examine the role of other individuals or social media accounts allegedly involved in distributing the content.

No response from Noreen Niazi was immediately available regarding the allegations. The claims contained in the FIR have not yet been tested before a court.
